Privacy Policy
Rooftop Express: Train Runner · Effective 1 November 2026
Rooftop Express: Train Runner ("the game", "we", "us") is a mobile game made by an independent developer. This policy explains what data is processed when you play the game or visit this website, why, who else receives it, and the choices you have. It covers the game on every platform it is released on (for example iOS, iPadOS and Android) and this website.
The short version
- The game has no accounts and never asks for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos or precise location.
- We use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool, to count anonymous gameplay events. It uses no cookies and no advertising IDs, does not store your IP address, and is not used for advertising.
- Ads are served by Google AdMob. Google may collect device data (including, only if you allow it, your advertising ID) to show, measure and personalise ads. You choose whether ads are personalised.
- Payments, if you make any, are handled entirely by Apple or Google. We never see your card details.
- We do not sell your personal information for money.
1. Data processed in the game
| What | Why | Who processes it |
|---|---|---|
| Anonymous gameplay events (see section 2) | Improve difficulty, find bugs, understand which features are used | Us, via Umami |
| Device and ad data (see section 3) | Show, measure and (with consent) personalise ads; prevent ad fraud | Google AdMob and its ad partners |
| Purchase records (see section 4) | Deliver and restore what you bought | Apple / Google |
| Game Center or Google Play Games profile, scores and achievements (see section 5) | Leaderboards and achievements | Apple / Google |
| Progress, coins, outfits and settings | Save your game | Stored on your device only |
| Crash and performance diagnostics (see section 7) | Fix crashes | Apple / Google, if you opted in on your device |
2. Anonymous analytics (Umami)
The game sends a small number of gameplay events to an Umami analytics server, for example: a level started, finished or failed and how far you got, screens opened, settings changed, whether an ad was offered or watched, and taps on shop buttons. Events may include the app version, the device type and operating system, the screen size, your language and an approximate country.
- No cookies and no advertising identifiers. Umami does not use the IDFA, the Android Advertising ID or any cross-app identifier.
- No IP address is stored. Your IP address is used only briefly, when an event arrives, to work out an approximate country, and is then discarded.
- Events may carry a random identifier created by the game when it is installed, so that one player's sessions can be counted together. It is not linked to your name, your Apple or Google account, your advertising ID or any other app, and it is reset if you delete and reinstall the game.
- We use these statistics only in aggregate to improve the game. They are never used for advertising, never sold and never combined with data from other sources to identify you.
The website you are reading may use the same cookie-free Umami analytics to count page visits.
3. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The game is free and is funded by ads served by Google AdMob. It may show rewarded ads that you choose to watch in exchange for an in-game reward, and occasional full-screen ads between runs.
To serve ads, Google may collect and process information such as your device's advertising identifier, IP address, approximate location derived from the IP address, device model and operating system, app information, and how you interact with ads. Google uses it to deliver and measure ads, limit how often you see the same ad, detect fraud and, if you allow it, show ads based on your interests. Google may work with other ad networks and measurement partners to fill ad requests.
Your ad choices
- Consent (EEA, UK and Switzerland, and wherever required by law). Before ads load, the game shows Google's consent form. You can accept or refuse personalised ads. If you refuse, or if the form fails to load, ads are limited to non-personalised ones. You can change your choice later from the game's Settings (privacy options) where available, or by contacting us.
- iOS tracking. On iPhone and iPad the game asks for permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", your advertising identifier is not shared and ads are not personalised using it. You can change this any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android. You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalisation, in your device's Settings → Privacy → Ads (wording varies by device).
- US state privacy laws. Personalised advertising may count as "sharing" or "targeted advertising" under some US state laws. You can opt out by refusing tracking or personalised ads as described above, or by contacting us.
Learn more in Google's Privacy Policy, How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services, and Google's list of ad technology providers.
4. In-app purchases
The game may offer optional purchases, such as removing full-screen ads or cosmetic items. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) under their own terms and privacy policies. We never receive your payment details, name or address; we only receive confirmation of what was bought so the game can unlock it. Coins and other in-game items earned by playing have no real-money value.
5. Game Center and Google Play Games
If you are signed in to Apple Game Center (or, on Android, Google Play Games), the game can post your scores to leaderboards and unlock achievements. These services are run by Apple or Google. Your nickname, profile picture and scores may be visible to other players, depending on your settings in those services. The game receives your player identifier and nickname only to show leaderboards and achievements; we do not store them on our own servers. You can sign out or change your visibility in iOS Settings → Game Center, or in the Google Play Games app.
6. Notifications, reviews and data on your device
- Notifications. If you allow notifications, the game schedules occasional reminders locally on your device (for example, that the train is waiting). They are created on the device itself; no notification token is sent to us. You can turn reminders off in the game's Settings or in your device's notification settings.
- Review prompts. The game may ask you to rate it using the system's own review dialog. Your rating goes directly to Apple or Google.
- Local save. Your progress, stars, coins, outfits and settings are saved on your device. If your device backs up app data (for example to iCloud or Google), it is stored there under your own account. Deleting the game deletes this data from the device.
7. Crash reports
If you have chosen to share diagnostics with app developers in your device settings, Apple or Google may provide us with anonymous crash reports and performance data. We use them only to fix problems.
8. Online features
Some features may require an internet connection now or in future updates, such as online multiplayer, weekly events or cloud saves. When you use online multiplayer, game messages (such as positions and in-game actions) are relayed between the players' devices through our server, which runs on Cloudflare. Your IP address is necessarily used to deliver this traffic but is not kept beyond short-term security and operations logs. If a future feature needs data not described here, we will update this policy before releasing it and, where the law requires, ask for your consent.
9. When you contact us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and to help you, and delete the correspondence when it is no longer needed.
10. Legal bases (EEA and UK)
- Consent: personalised advertising, and reading or storing advertising identifiers where consent is required.
- Legitimate interests: anonymous analytics, non-personalised ads that fund the free game, security, fraud prevention and fixing crashes. We have chosen tools that minimise data so that these interests do not override your rights.
- Performance of a contract: delivering purchases and online features you ask for.
- Legal obligation: where we must keep or disclose information by law.
11. How long data is kept
Anonymous analytics are kept for as long as they are useful to improve the game, and in any case no longer than 3 years. Server logs for online features are kept for up to 30 days. Emails are kept as long as needed to deal with your request. Data held by Google, Apple or other partners is kept according to their own policies.
12. Who we share data with
We share data only with the service providers named in this policy (Google AdMob and its ad partners, Apple, Google, Umami and Cloudflare for hosting), when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety or security of players, us or others. If the game is ever transferred to a new owner, this policy will continue to apply to data collected under it. We do not sell personal information for money.
Some of these providers are located outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, transfers are protected by safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
13. Children
The game is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will delete it.
14. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, the UK GDPR or US state privacy laws), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict its processing, to withdraw consent at any time, and to opt out of targeted advertising. You will not be treated differently for exercising these rights. To make a request, email us. Because our analytics are anonymous, we may be unable to find data that belongs to you; we will tell you if so. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
15. Deleting your data
- Game data: delete the game from your device. This removes your saved progress and the random analytics identifier.
- Advertising data: reset your advertising ID in your device settings, and see Google's privacy controls for data Google holds.
- Game Center / Google Play Games: manage or delete this data through your Apple or Google account.
- Anything else: email us at the address below with the subject "Delete my data" and we will delete what we hold within 30 days.
16. Security
Data sent by the game travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we collect as little as possible so there is little to protect.
17. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example when the game gains new features or partners. The date at the top always shows the latest version. If a change significantly affects how your data is used, we will tell you in the game or on this page before it takes effect and, where the law requires, ask for your consent again.
